Highlights of expired tear gas in the Kanjuruhan tragedy

Usage tear gas in the management of safety at the Kanjuruhan stadium, Malang, was in the spotlight. Komnas HAM received information that the tear gas used had expired.

“We have information that is actually out of date, some have been found to be out of date. We are currently investigating this,” Komnas Commissioner HAM Choirul Anam told reporters. detik.comMonday (10/10/2022).

Komnas ham obtained information that some of the tear gas used was produced in 2016 and expired in 2019.

Komnas HAM estimated that the use of tear gas had a significant role in the tragedy that occurred on Saturday (1/10). At least 131 people died in this accident.

Spectators rushed out of the stadium after tear gas was thrown into the stands. At that moment, white smoke of water gas exploded, causing shortness of breath and burning eyes for those who had been exposed.

The audience also tried to exit the stands in a t-shirt atmosphere, then rushed to the exit at a number of grandstand doors.

“The cause of the death toll is important. If you look at the dynamics, it is really tear gas that is the main trigger for the deaths,” said Anam.

Previously reported, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo revealed that 11 tear gas canisters were released during a riot following the match between Arema FC and Persebaya. Of these 11 shots, 7 were aimed at the south stand, 1 at the north stand and 3 were fired at the soccer field.

“This caused public panic, especially those in the stands who were shot at, pain and then the attempt to leave the arena,” General Sigit said at a press conference in Malang on Thursday (6/10) .

Related the tragedy of Kanjuruhan Police named six suspects. There were three police suspects, two of whom ordered tear gas.

Those who gave the order to fire tear gas were the head of the Samapta unit of the Malang police AKP Bambang Sidik Achmadi and the commander of the company (Danki) of the East Java Police Mobile Brigade AKP Hasdarmawan.

Mahfud involves chemists

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md said he was responding to Komnas HAM’s inquiries into information regarding expired tear gas used during security at the Kanjuruhan Stadium on Saturday (1/10). Of note, Mahfud was also named chairman of the Joint Independent Fact Finding Team (TGIPF) for the Kanjuruhan tragedy.

“Perhaps what Komnas HAM found coincided with an expiration date, but what did not expire was not found by Komnas HAM. The results are different, depending on who found it,” Mahfud told reporters. detik.comMonday (10/10).
