Status: 02.09.2024 10:05 a.m.

What will be important today, Monday, September 2nd, at the Paralympic Games in Paris? The highlights of the day at a glance.

57 decisions

From 8.15 am – Para-Triathlon (F+M)

Eleven decisions will be made in the triathlon (live stream on sportschau.de). As at the Olympics, swimming will take place in the Seine – if the water quality allows it. On Sunday, the competitions were postponed by one day due to poor water quality. One of the top favorites in the PTS5 starting class (start: 12.20 p.m.) is the German flag bearer Martin Schulz, who already won gold in Rio and Tokyo. A medal is also the goal of his Leipzig training partner Max Gelhaar (PTS3/9.25 a.m.), who is taking part in the Paralympics for the first time. In the women’s category, Neele Ludwig (PTS2/9.35 a.m.), Anja Renner with guide Maria Paulig (PTVI3/12.05 p.m.) and Elke van Engelen (PTS4/12.40 p.m.) will be competing for Germany.

The French will cheer particularly loudly from 12.25 p.m. when their flag bearer Alexis Hanquinquant jumps into the water in the PTS4 class. The 38-year-old won gold in Tokyo and at the last three World Championships.

From 8.30 am – Para-Badminton, 14 finals

Last day of badminton in Paris! Thomas Wandschneider (WH1) will be the only German taking part. He will be playing for bronze in the match for third place against South Korean Jaegun Jeong. According to the official schedule, the match will not start before 10:10 a.m. (in the live stream on sportschau.de).

From 9.30 am – Para-swimming, 13 finals

The first competition for swimmer Elena Krawzow is coming up: at 10:55 a.m. the preliminary heats of the 50 m freestyle (S13) will determine who will make it to the final (6:47 p.m.) – Maike Naomi Schwarz is also taking part. Krawzow from Berlin only finished twelfth in this discipline in Tokyo, but qualified for Paris with the sixth fastest time. Is there even a medal in it?

After his triumph over 150 m individual medley, Josia Topf (S3) also wants to attack over 50 m backstroke (17:58). In Tokyo he finished seventh.

From 10.00 am – Para-athletics, 13 finals

Niko Kappel is back! The Rio winner and Tokyo third-place finisher in the shot put has returned just in time for the Paralympics. First he set a world record (15.07 m) in May, and shortly afterwards he won the world title in Japan. The final of the short-statured shot putters in the F41 class begins at 12.15 p.m. (live on Das Erste and on sportschau.de).

In the evening, Léon Schäfer is one of the favorites in the 100 m sprint for prosthetic runners (T63/7.40 p.m.) after a convincing preliminary round. He won bronze in Tokyo. As did Johannes Floors (T64), who will start in the final immediately afterwards (7.50 p.m.) – together with Felix Streng, Tokyo winner and world best of the year (10.70 s). The decisions will be broadcast live on sportschau.de.

From 11.30 am – Wheelchair rugby, placement games

The placement games are coming up in wheelchair rugby – for the German team, its Paralympics comeback after four defeats in four games is only about seventh place. The highlight of the spectacular knockout matches in the Champ-de-Mars Arena is the gold medal final between Japan and the USA (7.30 p.m.). In Tokyo, Great Britain beat the US team in the final.

4:00 p.m. – Wheelchair basketball, preliminary round: Germany – Canada (M)

The German wheelchair basketball players will play their last preliminary round match against Canada. All teams will advance to the quarterfinals after the preliminary round, and their placement will determine their opponents from the other group (live stream on sportschau.de).
