Highlights from the 36th Edition of the Festival del Sur – Three Continents Theater Meeting

On its penultimate day, the theatrical meeting brought together companies and artists from Tenerife, the Basque Country, Valencia and Cameroon.

The 36th edition of the Festival del Sur – Three Continents Theater Meeting continued this Saturday in the municipality with an extensive cultural program. The day began in the area of ​​the Caseta del Muelle de Arinaga, where the first of the performances of ‘A poet of ridicule in action’, by the clown Yiyolo Stratto from Tenerife. For 45 minutes, Yiyolo immersed the audience in a pure game where laughter did not distinguish between ages or contexts. The combination of improvisation, skill and complicity delighted young and old alike.

In the afternoon, the Plaza del Rosario in Agüimes once again hosted the show ‘Mute’, by the Basque company Orain Bi. In this circus act, humor and acrobatics merged to make the audience reflect on the ability of people to change, adapt and evolve. His story invited us to weigh the limits of each person and to conceive life with a desire to improve.

The festival continued at night at the Agüimes Auditorium Theater, where the performance of the play ‘Laluck’, by the Valencian company Pérez & Disla, took place. The drama told the story of a couple of two men who want to adopt, but encounter a thousand administrative and judicial impediments along the way. Despite this, they do not give up and fight until they reach their goal of starting a family.

The cultural evening culminated at the Municipal Theater, where the dance show ‘Le départ’, by the Cameroonian dancer and choreographer Zora Snake, took place. With a combination of hip-hop and music with Cameroonian roots, the artist criticized societies “carbonized” by an unjust system. On stage he recreated a boxing ring, in which with his nervous dance and satire he questioned the laws of the modern jungle and the great beasts that reign in our time, a plea against the oppression of political systems over freedom. of expression and public opinion.

The programming of the 36th edition of the Festival del Sur ends this Sunday at 12:30 in the Plaza del Rosario, with the second performance of ‘A poet of ridicule in action’, by Yiyolo Stratto. With this last appointment the edition of this theatrical meeting will be concluded, consecrated for being the longest running in the Canary Islands and one of the most notable in Spain.
