There were two favorites wins at the 14th Mainpost-Mainfrankentriathlon. Lukas Stengel from Arriba Göppersdorf triumphed over the Olympic distance of 1670 meters swimming, 40 kilometers cycling and ten kilometers running. Eleisa Haag from SV 05 Würzburg was once again the fastest woman.
Eleisa Haag won the Olympic distance for the first time. The 27-year-old, who starts for SV 05 in the 1st Bundesliga, didn’t give second-placed Lisa Heinrich a chance. Lukas Stengel landed his second victory on his fourth attempt in Kitzingen and had a three-minute lead over the short triathlon world champion (70/3) Kilian Bauer from SV Wacker Burghausen.
Can’t be beat on the sprint track
Elias Knoll from TSG Roth was unbeatable on the sprint distance (600 meters swimming, 20 kilometers cycling, five kilometers running). He won ahead of the two Lower Franconians, Alessio Paoletti from TG 48 Schweinfurt and Christian Dürr from TV Ochsenfurt. Christian Mildner and Georg Harbauer, who started for Würzburg clubs, achieved further top ten placings.
Katharina Schmidt from SV 05 Würzburg won the women’s competition over the sprint distance. The 23-year-old improved her previous best time in Kitzingen by a mere nine minutes, was involved in the Bavarian league this year and now experienced the crowning glory of the season.
“I want to be a good host,” remarked Kitzingen’s Lord Mayor Stefan Güntner on the outcome of the mayoral competition he initiated. Several participants crept into this ranking and when adjusted, Stefan Ohr from Crailsheim was at the top, followed by Jochen Fetzer from Bingen (Baden-Württemberg) and Christian Gangl (Sindelfingen). Stefan Güntner took fourth place. “Some of my colleagues are so fit that I still couldn’t catch them with more training,” said the Kitzinger mayor, who was involved for the seventh time, outlining the relations.
In the Olympic relay ranking, the “weak choristers” were at the top and the EMS Lounge Kitzingen (2nd place) and the “three-speed circuit” with the athletes Chris Wiegand, Mira Bernhart and Hannah Voll from the Kitzingen gymnastics community achieved good rankings . Meanwhile, the TSV Harburg team got full throttle in the relay competition over the sprint distance.
Organizer Dieter Göpfert had ensured that everything ran smoothly and he was pleased to be able to welcome around 700 participants to the Mainfrankentriathlon, which was one of only three in Germany to be recognized as family-friendly. The athletes were happy to tackle the swimming sub-discipline, because it is easier to swim downstream in the Main than anywhere else.
Euphoria on the track
The audience cheered on the cyclists and runners along the routes, and the euphoria spread to the athletes. Especially in the transition and finish area on the Mainkai, the spectators were able to follow everything at close range and literally carried everyone to the finish line with applause.
Many of the participants were exhausted at the finish and flooded with endorphins. Several highnesses of the Kitzingen court waited at the finish line to congratulate all participants and to give them medals.
Thanks to the volunteers from the water rescue service, everything ran smoothly in the Main, and the paramedics and emergency doctor Stephan Rapp remained fairly unemployed. Dieter Göpfert paid tribute to the athletes for their achievements and according to the announcement he rewarded the best with nice prizes.
