“Highland Fever: A Journey Through Scotland’s Romantic Highlands – A Deep Dive with Music and Literature”

By Sylvia Roth

The Scottish Highlands: Rugged, archaic mountains streaked with mist. A place of longing – not just nowadays. As early as the early 19th century, more and more Germans set off for the Highlands, because that’s where they think the roots of Romanticism lie: Fanny Lewald, Johanna Schopenhauer, Titus Ullrich or Theodor Fontane – they all set off. We follow them into the “Gaelic wilderness”: into a world full of melancholy and loneliness, full of poetry and magic.
