This is the highest number since December 25 last year, Christmas Day.
Compared to Tuesday, the number of positive tests increased by 2,632 on Wednesday. In the past seven days, RIVM registered 58,766 new infections. That equates to an average of 8,395 new cases per day.
At the end of June, the corona infections started to increase as a result of the rapidly advancing Delta variant of the corona virus. The vast majority of people who test positive are in their teens and twenties, but the number of cases among those in their thirties, forties and fifties is also starting to rise.
Hospitals
In total, the hospitals are now treating 212 people because of Covid-19, the disease caused by the corona virus. That is eight more than on Tuesday, but one less than on Monday. Of the admitted patients, 138 are in a nursing ward. That is 9 more than on Tuesday and 36 more than last Wednesday.
It will remain quiet on the ICs for the time being. There are now 74 corona patients, the lowest number since September 19. Compared to Tuesday, one IC bed has become available.
Because the number of positive tests has exploded recently, the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS) expects it to become busier in the near future in ICUs and nursing wards.
