Absenteeism due to illness in the Netherlands rose further in January compared to the previous month, the health and safety services ArboNed and HumanCapitalCare report. For the first time since the start of the pandemic, more than half of sick leave was caused by corona. Absenteeism was particularly high in healthcare and industry.
The health and safety services have noticed that employees who have tested positive can now return to work faster than when the delta variant was still dominant. “Although corona causes more sick reports, since the arrival of the omikron variant and booster campaign, we have seen infected employees recover faster,” says Jurriaan Penders of HumanCapitalCare. “Of this group, 73 percent recovered after two weeks. In November, when we were still dealing with the delta variant, that was 57 percent.”
