High Surge Watch and Beach Closures: Hurricane Franklin’s Impact on New York’s Beaches

If you plan to stay in town and go to the beach this weekend, be aware of a high surge watch from Hurricane Franklin’s winds.

Governor Kathy Hochul has ordered the closure of Long Island state beaches, including Long Beach and Jones Beach.

New York City’s beaches, by contrast, are open but the Parks Department says it is monitoring conditions and the progress of the storm.

The agency is also issuing a reminder to beachgoers to only enter the water when lifeguards are on duty and never swim in the closed sections of the beaches.
