A high-speed train derailed this Thursday morning in the Casalpusterlengo region of Lombardy, south-east of Milan, Italy. There are at least two deaths and about three dozen injured.
The fatal victims already confirmed will be the train drivers of the train. Several carriages overturned. The injured will be light, says the Italian agency Ansa.
The Milan – Bologna connection was interrupted at 5:30 am (one hour less in Lisbon) and rail connections are being diverted to the Milan – Piacenza line, causing delays of more than an hour.
The causes of the accident are still unknown and are being investigated. There are firefighters and emergency vehicles on site.
