The French gendarmerie is switching to another fast patrol car and that is why the police are slowly saying goodbye to the well-known Renault Mégane RS. One copy is now for sale.

The Renault Mégane RS, which, according to local media, was used by the so-called Rapid Intervention Brigade (RIB), has been largely replaced by the Seat Leon Cupra. One copy of the Renault is currently being produced offered for auction on the internet.

The souped-up example, which in its heyday was between 270 and 290 hp strong, is located in Lyon. With more than 250,000 kilometers on the odometer, the car has had a tough life and it shows. Some parts are missing or no longer function, as can be read in the advertisement. The interior and exterior are classified as ‘worn out’ and the car must be collected by trailer.

It is not the first Mégane to leave the service. The National Gendarmerie Museum previously added one of these copies to its collection, and a copy without a motor was auctioned last October. That car yielded 9,900 euros and that was much more than expected in advance. More fast Méganes are expected to be offered in the coming months.

However, not all will be replaced by the Seat Leon Cupra. The gendarmerie has stopped its orders from the Spanish manufacturer (and Volkswagen subsidiary) and plans to issue a new tender to complete its fleet. The police could return to a French brand for the RIB. The 360 hp Peugeot 508 PSE seems to be an ideal replacement.

The highest bid is now 6200 euros, while the car was valued at 3800 euros. The sale ends tomorrow at 2 p.m.

Bidding on the car is not possible just like that. According to the website, the offer is ‘only for professionals’. It is not clear what that exactly means.
