High School Students Ask Jokowi about the Effect of PPKM with Covid Rise

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

A student of SMAN 39 Jakarta named Christanti Yanita Zega asked the President Joko Widodo regarding the effect of the Imposition of Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM) to the increase in cases covid-19.

He asked the question after attending a vaccination at his school. Christanti asked Jokowi via video teleconference.

“What is the impact of implementing PPKM with the current increase in COVID-19 cases, sir? Thank you, sir,” said Christanti in a live broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s Youtube channel, Wednesday (4/7).

Jokowi did not immediately answer Christanti’s question. He asked the high school student’s nickname. Christanti said he was usually called Chris.

Then, the former mayor of Solo asked about Christanti’s experience being injected with the COVID-19 vaccine. After that, Jokowi only answered questions about PPKM.

“PPKM limits community activities so that there are not many interactions between people and people, between groups and groups because if you meet there is only one who carries the virus, who is affected by Covid, can spread everywhere,” said Jokowi.

Jokowi explained that the spread of the virus would decrease if people’s mobility declined. He said various countries have made policies to suppress people’s movements in the midst of a pandemic.

“Every country has something to do lockdown, there are those who carry out strict restrictions, there are those who do micro PPKM, the methods vary, but the point is good lockdown, both PPKM, reducing mobility, reducing people-to-people meetings,” said Jokowi.

The government has implemented PPKM since January 11, 2021. This policy had changed its name to PPKM Mikro. On July 3, the government implemented Emergency PPKM to suppress the surge in COVID-19 cases.

Initially, Emergency PPKM was only implemented in 132 districts/cities in Java and Bali. After a few days, the government expanded the implementation of the policy to 15 districts/cities outside Java and Bali.
