A high school girl who was clinging to the window railing of an 11th-floor apartment to avoid the fire was rescued safely.
According to the Gyeonggi Province Fire and Disaster Headquarters, a 119 call was received at about 11:30 a.m. on the 13th that a fire broke out on the 11th floor of an apartment in Gojan-dong, Danwon-gu, Ansan-si.
Firefighters who arrived on the scene six minutes after the report found a teenage woman clinging to the railing of a window on the 11th floor where the fire had started, avoiding smoke.
Firefighters immediately extinguished the flames and entered the apartment, while also installing an elevated ladder and air mats to prevent falls.
After securing an evacuation route, Fire Chief Cho Jun-hyung of the Ansan Fire Department entered the house and pulled the woman hanging from the railing to the window at approximately 11:44 a.m., 15 minutes after the report.
The rescued woman was Ms. A, a first-year high school student. She was terrified with soot covering her nose and mouth at the time of rescue, but fortunately, other than inhaling a little smoke, she was found to have suffered no other injuries.
Fire Chief Cho said, “After stabilizing the rescuer as much as possible, we activated the life-saving breathing aid and brought him down to the ground safely. I am really grateful to the female student who held on to the railing until the end in extreme fear, and I hope she finds stability as soon as possible.” He said.
The fire was extinguished within 20 minutes of being reported.
There was no one else inside the house other than Ms. A, and there were no casualties, but household items inside the house were burned and damaged.
Fire authorities believe the fire started near the sofa in the living room and are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
