“We are a little stressed about the admissions, it is the first time we have such a big exam, but we hope we will succeed. It will affect a large part of our life. We are ready for it, we have been studying since October,” two of the applicants who will try for admission to the Na Vítězné plani grammar school today describe to Denik.

Administration here started at half past eight in the morning. The identity of the students was also checked so that they were seated one at a time. The atmosphere was calm. Applicants for admission were advised on the spot by current students of the gymnasium, showing them the way to the classrooms on the third floor where the exam was held. Some classrooms were fully occupied, in others there were only a few pupils, due to a special approach, which applies to foreigners or applicants, who by law have more time for the exam.
Current students are heading to the cinema or on study leave
Due to admissions several classes are occupied, so the question arises for schools about what to do with existing students. The substitute program is different at the schools. At the Na Vítězné plani gymnasium, only high school graduates who have a study leave have and vacate space in the school.
At which elementary schools in Prague do students do best with entrance exams
Already European gymnasium in Prague 6, students head for culture. “Every time there is a unified entrance exam, students go to the substitute program so that it makes sense. We have a lot of artists here, so they go to the exhibition on Friday. On Monday, I specifically wanted them to go to the cinema to see One Life about Nicholas Winton,” Pavel Žďárský, director of the Evropská gymnasium, told Deník. The second date of entrance exams for the four-year study program takes place on Monday, April 15, i.e. right after the weekend.
There is strong competition among applicants in Prague
According to the Prague municipality, it is pressure on four-year gymnasiums lower this year than last year. “In Prague, we have 12,500 pupils in the ninth grade. In total, we have approximately 19,500 places here. Compared to last year, the capacity was increased by 1,200. At the grammar schools and lyceums established by Prague, we increased the capacity by 450 places,” education councilor Antonín Klecanda (STAN) said when asked by Deník. According to him, it is not possible to find out the exact number of applications from other regions. “But it looks like there are over 10,500, which is a huge number. We organized Cermat for the exact number, so far without an answer,” he added.

The secretary of STAN, Klára Neumannová, stated that the digitization of admission procedures has a positive effect on the entire process. “We firmly believe that the result will be positive, especially for students and parents, but also for the schools themselves,” she specified. Since demography shows that there will be an increase in pupils in Prague and Central Bohemia, according to the municipality, it is necessary for the state to issue subsidies for new capacities.
