High Risk of Flooding in Germany: Village Evacuated Due to Enormous Rainfall on Monday

Due to the enormous rainfall, the risk of flooding in parts of Germany is high on Monday. Part of the municipality of Heringen/Helme has even been evacuated. This is what the German news magazine writes The mirror Monday.

The German weather service continues to warn of persistent rain in several regions. The village of Windehausen (municipality of Heringen/Helme) in the north of the state of Thuringia is particularly hard hit.

On Monday, five hundred residents of Windehausen had to be evacuated. Residents were transported out of the city using, among other things, shovels. Residents were not forced to leave their homes, but were advised to do so. They were received in a sports hall.

“The situation is very threatening,” said Matthias Marquardt, mayor of Heringen. He continued his story by telling us that the electricity and landline telephony in Windeshausen no longer work. The toilets were also out of use due to the lack of drainage.

There was also a lot of nuisance in other places in Germany. Train traffic between Hannover and Magdeburg has been halted until Wednesday.

Storm surges are forecast on the Elbe in Hamburg late on Monday evening, with levels of 1.5 meters above the mean high tide. The water can also rise higher than normal along the North Sea coast.
