Nurbolat Zhumabaev and Sergey Petrov were suspected of car theft and were taken to the Shymkent police station in December 2021. At the same time, Zhumabaev was beaten on the street by special forces, although he did not run away and did not resist.
During the interrogation, Nurbolat became ill, and the ambulance did not help either. Doctors had only to ascertain the death of a young man. Later, Sergei Petrov, who was detained along with the deceased, said that they were interrogated for 12 hours and physical force was used against them.
There were no surveillance cameras in the investigation room. According to the head of the police department, they are installed only in the corridor. The case on the fact of the death of a man was then transferred to the Department of Homeland Security and the city prosecutor’s office.
