High-Ranking Military Espionage Case Involving Chinese Recruitment – Taiwan’s Prosecutor’s Office Statement

Three of the defendants were accused of recruiting active-duty soldiers to gather military intelligence to “establish a network for China,” Taiwan’s prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

The four officers they recruited were also accused of handing over “several military secrets” to Beijing in exchange for money.

Two other active duty officers allegedly filmed a “psychological warfare” video for Beijing, in which they said: “I am ready to surrender to the People’s Liberation Army.”

“Pledges of allegiance by active-duty soldiers to the Chinese Communist Party are extremely abusive,” prosecutors said.

Another soldier was accused of stealing military secrets from a safe at his workplace.
