High property damage in a fire on a roof terrace

Darmstadt city center (ots) – The fire on a roof terrace in Darmstädter Weinbergstrasse resulted in property damage in the high five-digit euro range on Monday evening (December 14, 2020) according to initial estimates. Shortly after 7:00 p.m., neighbors noticed smoke and a glow of fire on the roof terrace of the two-story residential building and alerted the fire brigade and police. There were no people in the affected building at the time. The professional fire brigade was able to bring the fire under control and finally extinguish it. The fire damaged both the roof terrace and the apartment below. It is no longer habitable until further notice. Initial investigations by the police have shown that there was a high probability that welding work carried out up to around 6:30 p.m. to seal the roof terrace had led to the fire.
