The ride on the price of petrol continues, breaking through the average ceiling of two euros per liter at self-service on the motorway. And the increase becomes a reason for political confrontation, with the Democratic Party recalling: “Minister Matteo Salvini had promised government intervention with the price of fuel above two euros per litre”. And now he is asking for “concrete acts”. Avs attacks: «The government allows speculation on petrol hiding behind the alibi of taxes». A ride, that of petrol and diesel prices that has been going on for 17 days in a row. And that exploded symbolically with the case of the service station on the A8, where the price was over 2.7 euros per litre. Petrol in self-service mode on the motorway comes in at an average of €2.019 per litre, with diesel following close behind at €1.928, according to the Business Ministry’s daily survey. Northern European countries are doing worse: Iceland (2.142 euros per litre), the Netherlands (2.067 euros) and Norway (2.039). In Italy the average on the national network is 1.937 euros, in France, which ranks eighth, petrol costs an average of 1.894 euros per litre. In Germany (ninth) 1.855 euros per litre. In Italy, over 54% of the price of petrol and diesel is made up of taxes (VAT and excise duties): this is how our country is the one with the highest percentage share of taxes. In particular, 55.8% of the price of petrol is currently made up of taxes (VAT and excise duties); only Greece and the Netherlands are more with 55.9%.

For diesel, taxes represent 52.4% of the total; among the other countries, which in any case remain distant, only France and Belgium exceed 50%, respectively at 50.4% and 50.1%.
