AMBERG At the annual meeting of the Bavarian Energy Efficiency Network Initiative (BEEN-i) on September 24, 2024 in Amberg, Bavaria’s Energy Minister Hubert Aiwanger emphasized the importance of the network initiative: “There are now almost 80 energy efficiency networks in Bavaria, in which over 700 companies are involved. With BEEN-i, we are offering our Bavarian companies ‘help for self-help’ to strengthen their competitiveness, generate more profits and secure jobs and prosperity in Bavaria.” In 2022 and 2023 alone, 79 companies in six energy efficiency networks were able to achieve impressive savings: They consumed around 270 gigawatt hours less energy and reduced around 63,000 tons of CO2 emissions. “As patron of the BEEN-i initiative, I am very pleased about this positive effect. In the future, we want to expand the initiative to include issues relating to operational sustainability. I recommend to all Bavarian companies: Use the BEEN-i initiative, join forces in energy efficiency networks, jointly realize the extensive energy, resource and CO2 savings potential and strengthen your competitiveness. It’s worth it,” emphasized Aiwanger. A survey of the participating companies shows that around 94 percent of the companies would recommend other companies to participate in an energy efficiency network.
BEEN-i’s common motto is: “Create synergies, increase added value and reduce energy costs.”
In the past two years, the following six networks were founded:
- 4E² (Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Network)
- EEN BGL (Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection Network Berchtesgadener Land)
- dekarbN (Decarbonization Network)
- EEN Franken 2 (Energy Efficiency Network Franken 2)
- TOP 2 Stone Paper Chemistry (East Bavarian Energy Efficiency Network)
- BENNO (Cross-sectoral energy efficiency network for Northern and Eastern Bavaria)
BEEN-i is a joint effort of the leading organizations of the Bavarian economy, including the Association of Bavarian Chambers of Industry and Commerce, the Association of Bavarian Business, the Association of Bavarian Chambers of Crafts and Trades and major industry associations. BEEN-i was launched in 2015.
