Gold favorite Gianmarco Tamberi (32) experienced a truly horror night. Just a few hours before his competition, the high jump star was spitting blood. Nevertheless, he competed. At the end, bitter tears flowed.

Immediately before his scheduled start in the high jump final, Gianmarco Tamberi is causing a lot of excitement. The Olympic champion from Tokyo (2020) openly and honestly reveals to everyone that he is anything but well. “I was just taken to the emergency room by ambulance after vomiting blood twice”he wrote on Instagram a few hours before the competition, alongside a photo of him in an ambulance. The reason: Tamberi is suffering from renal colic.

Nevertheless, the 32-year-old competed in the final a few days later – despite severe pain and a bloody, horror night in his bones. But the high jump star, who is used to success, does not want to miss out on the chance of another medal.
Although he ran into the Stade de France in the final with his usual dramatic gestures, his strength was not enough after this “nightmare”. The injured Italian’s jump ended at 2.27 meters. His dream of another gold medal was shattered.
