High Inflation and Cost of Living Prompt Nearly a Third of Quebecers to Consider Personal Loans: HelloSafe Survey

In a context of high inflation and an increase in the cost of living, nearly a third of Quebecers would use a personal loan for their current expenses.

A site survey HelloSafeconducted in Quebec with 833 respondents, notes that “the personal loan represents an attractive solution for financing small to medium-sized expenses.”

To the question “In your opinion, what is the main use of the personal loan?” “, 38.24% of participants mentioned various reasons grouped under “Other”, while 31.37% of them see the personal loan as a way to offer flexibility in payments to spread out expenses.

15.69% of respondents consider that a loan is useful in the event of a financial emergency. Only 7.84% of people see it as a way to buy expensive goods more easily and 6.86% believe that it allows them to treat themselves from time to time with a nice purchase.

According to the results of the study, two thirds of personal loans taken out (67.93%) concern amounts less than $20,000. “These figures show a preference among Quebecers for relatively modest amounts, which validates the fact that this financing solution is most often used as a supplement,” deduces the HelloSafe team.

However, we note that 61.05% of respondents say they have never taken out a personal loan, “which suggests a certain prudence or a preference for other means of financing”. People who have taken out a loan several times represent 22.67% of respondents.
