– Bergen has had a doubling in infection numbers in the last week. We have had over a thousand new cases of infection in the last seven days, and we are now above the national average.

This is what the infection control chief in Bergen, Marit Voltersvik, says.

153 new infections with coronavirus have been registered in Bergen municipality in the last 24 hours. 898 people tested themselves on Sunday.

– I would like to remind all residents that from today it is the duty to wear a bandage indoors in situations where there is a risk that you can not keep at least one meter away, Marit Voltersvik.

It is also not only in Bergen that the infection situation is now tense.

Six died this weekend

Both the University Hospital in Northern Norway in Tromsø and the Finnmark Hospital in Hammerfest had three corona deaths each over the weekend.

In Trondheim, four hospitalized patients at St. Olav’s hospital have died of the coronavirus in the last week.

In the last 24 hours, 1,470 corona infections have been registered in Norway.

That is 314 more than the same day last week. In the last seven days, an average of 2,055 corona infections have been registered per day.

The corresponding average seven days ago was 1,667, reports NTB.

Met the health leaders

On Monday morning, Trondheim Municipality and St. Olav’s Hospital had an emergency meeting with the state administrator, the National Institute of Public Health and the Norwegian Directorate of Health.

The topic of conversation was the demanding infection situation in Trondheim.

– The situation we see in the health services, both at St. Olav’s hospital and in our own health and welfare services, is serious and we are very worried, says municipal director Morten Wolden.

388 new infections have been registered on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

20 patients are admitted to St. Olav’s hospital, where four are in the intensive care unit and four are in a respirator.

Got support in meeting

Wolden says they received support for the measures introduced in Trondheim. Now there may also be new ones.

– We went through the measures we have introduced and received support for what we have done so far. Then we considered together further measures in the future. The conclusion on that will come later tonight.

On Wednesday, the presidency will meet in Trondheim where they will decide on a possible new regulation.

– It is quite certain that we will continue the measures we have now and possibly strengthen some measures as a proposal to the presidency on Wednesday.

– Press on all sides

St. Olav’s hospital announced last Monday that they must postpone planned operations. Sick leave is sky high, and hospital director Grethe Aasved tells NRK that she is worried about her employees.

She has now asked the municipality to tighten the measures, because Aasved is aware that the entire municipality is experiencing great pressure.

– There is pressure on all sides, says Aasved.

The hospital director’s biggest concern is the forecast that the National Institute of Public Health recently presented before the weekend.

– It shows that if we follow the curve we are now on, there will not be 20, but 60 hospitalized coronary patients in one to two weeks, says Aasved.

NRK previously wrote that there were over 200 new infected several days last week. This is not true, there were over 150 infected. We have now corrected the error.
