Public media charity marathon “Give five!” this year is dedicated to reducing domestic violence. Every five euros will go to people who want to end an abusive relationship, but they do not have the means to leave, they can settle elsewhere, and sometimes there is no money even for a medical examination. The anthem of this year’s charity marathon is called “I Know You Are,” and a song was recorded this week.
“I know you will be my friend” – this is the sound of this year’s charity marathon “Give five!” anthem. Its recording and filming takes place this year for two days, with musicians dividing the recording times of the song so that everyone does not gather together. The LTV program “Panorama” had the opportunity to look at the recording of the song.
The theme of this year’s charity marathon is – domestic violence, a serious theme. But the song brings a ray of hope at a time when it is very difficult.
“Today I even went to the recording and listened to a program on Latvian Radio, in which I told about people who have very deep sorrows, difficulties or a difficult situation in life. And in principle, it takes one person, it takes one person to get out of any pit. And if this one person is not there, then in principle it is a great hopelessness.
And this song is like an anthem to having at least one person who really believes that you can get out of every sorrow. Bigger or smaller, ”says musician Jānis Šipkēvics.
This year, the lyrics of the song were created by Inga Cipe, the music by Jānis Šipkēvics, and the overall sound of the composition – by the group “Instruments”.
“With this touch, with these words that you are my friend, it is always very difficult to describe it, but this elusive vibration of music and words, it seems to me – it works. Maybe not right away, but it works, ”says musician Renārs Kaupers.
Unfortunately, domestic violence has always been a topical issue, but it is important to understand that it is not just a family matter and you need to know when to intervene. That is why we need help from the sidelines.
“It is to be hoped that this song will also inspire people to look around and watch what is happening. This is a topical topic about families. I really want to talk about it, because there are many beautiful children and also parents, couples, who really suffer from this domestic violence. Because we also sing about it, ”says musician Intars Busulis.
The charity marathon will take place shortly before Christmas. Last year, a record amount of 438,197 euros was donated. As every year, this year we will be able to donate every five euros by helping someone and ordering a song on the radio. “I know you are” may be one of them.
CONTEXT:
Public media charity marathon “Give five!” This year will focus on domestic violence, a complex and multi-layered topic, covering both emotional, physical, financial and other forms of violence among family members, as well as the consequences and scenarios for action to enable a new life to begin.
Funds donated during the marathon will be channeled Ziedot.lv rapid response or crisis fund, providing financial support mainly to women and children who want to break out of the vicious circle of abusive relationships but are unable to do so due to a lack of support.
Charity marathon “Give five!” will take place from 17 to 23 December. It is organized by Latvian Radio in cooperation with Latvian Television and public media portal LSM.lv. For the first time, the content partner of the project will be the Baltic Center for Investigative Journalism “Re: Baltica”, which has been researching the topic of violence in depth since last year.
