Kochi: The High Court has upheld the final ruling in the petition related to raising the retirement age for two High Court employees due to retire at the end of December.
Judge Devan Ramachandran’s order came in a petition filed by High Court employees seeking to allow them to continue retiring on Dec. 31 as the government considers recommending it raise the retirement age.
The order recorded the government’s attorney’s assurance that the recommendation given by the panel of judges to increase the retirement age is under active consideration by the government and a decision will be made soon.
The court said the committee made its recommendation to the government in the context of introducing reforms, including a digital justice system model for the first time in India. The paperless system is going to court. The changes will come into effect on January 1st. Switching to a new system requires the services of experienced personnel. It is also in view of what the recommendation to raise the retirement age. The court also asked for a speedy decision on the recommendation taking into account the special situation that is part of the reforms being implemented in the court.
The government lawyer said the government would consider the recommendation appropriately and make a decision soon.
The court then clarified that the applicants’ retirement will be subject to the final ruling in their petition.
Another panel passed a similar order on a petition filed by two high court employees who were due to retire in November. They have retired. The government lawyer underlined this while examining new petitions.
