High corona death rates in Southeast Asia | ABC News

India, which has more than 1.4 billion inhabitants, has had the highest number of corona deaths in all of Southeast Asia through the pandemic.

During the peak of the infection in May, India reported a weekly average of 3 corona deaths per million inhabitants, according to Our World in Data. Since then, the death toll here has continued to fall.

But in Indonesia, Myanmar and Malaysia, deaths have risen sharply since the end of June. On Wednesday, the weekly average was 4.4, 4.3 and 4.1 per million inhabitants, respectively.

Indian authorities have rejected a new study claiming that the country has up to ten times more corona deaths than what is officially registered.
