JAKARTA High cholesterol usually does not show symptoms . But pain in three areas of the body can signal a buildup cholesterol which causes the arteries to narrow. This condition must be watched out for.

Reporting from Express, Tuesday (24/5/2022) high cholesterol is associated with serious complications, such as peripheral artery disease (PAD) which is characterized by pain in three areas of the body.

PAD is a common circulatory problem in which narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to the limbs. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), cramping pain in the hip, thigh or calf when walking, climbing stairs or exercising, can signal PAD.

“PAD pain often goes away when you stop exercising, although this may take a few minutes. Muscles that work need more blood flow. Muscles that rest can endure less,” says the AHA.

Other symptoms of PAD include foot or toe sores that won’t heal or heal very slowly, gangrene or dead tissue, decreased lower leg temperature compared to the rest of the foot or other body parts.

Poor nail growth on the toes or hair growth on the feet, erectile dysfunction especially in men with diabetes. As the AHA explains, many people consider leg pain to be a normal sign of aging.

“You may think it’s arthritis, sciatica or just stiffness with age. For an accurate diagnosis, consider the source of your pain. PAD leg pain occurs in the muscles, not the joints,” explains the AHA.

There are a number of important steps that must be taken to lower high cholesterol. First and foremost, you have to do a test. Because high cholesterol is mostly asymptomatic, you can only tell it from a blood test.
