High-budget GI Joe is making a game for the Wizards of the Coast

Behind the “beach wizards” is no less a name than Hasbro himself (the Wizards of the Coast is their video game industry…), and the company takes GI Joe seriously.

The Wizards of the Coast have opened a new studio, now called the “new Raleigh-Durham studio,” and here’s a quick explanation of the name. Raleigh-Durham is the name of an airport, Raleigh is the capital of the state of North Carolina in the United States. (And since the state itself is on the east coast of the U.S., even the name of Hasbro’s subsidiary immediately made sense…)

The new studio is “run by industry veterans certified by WB Games and other AAA studios” and has already been their job offers can be read by browsing. So we learned, for example, that a GI Joe game is being made here, which will be a multi-platform product of the AAA, action-looking action-adventure genre. Four job offers (technical director, art director, senior game designer, senior animator) also mention that it would be good to know Unreal Engine and, for example, the “candidate” should know the “development” or “mechanisms of discovery”.

There has already been a Hasbro investor event this year, where Chris Cocks, president of the Wizards of the Coast, who is relatively unfortunate in English, said digital improvements are starting for several perpetual Hasbro favorites. According to him, these brands will come to life digitally and develop experiences that will take the wavelength of the gamer lifestyle in new, fresh and even provocative ways. He mentioned several franchises at the time: GI Joe, Transformers, Micronauts, and Ouija.

It’s all too early to talk about when the new Wizards of the Coast studio will be done with the game (platforms can be said: the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC trio for sure), so here we would turn around to what GI Joe is. Well, these are action figures that originally shaped a U.S. Army soldier, sailor, air pilot, or sailor. (That’s how Transformers started their lives, right, here Hasbro is jointly responsible for it with Japan’s Takara Tomy.)
