Hides Mother in Freezer, Dies of Natural Causes

(ANSA) – CAGLIARI, 02 SEPTEMBER – Rosanna Pilloni, the 78-year-old woman whose body was found by the Carabinieri in a chest freezer in her home in Sarroch, in the metropolitan city of Cagliari, has died of natural causes. The body had been placed in the freezer at least two years ago by her son, Sandro Mallus, 54, to continue pocketing the money from the woman’s minimum pension, the family’s only income. The autopsy on the old woman’s body, performed in Cagliari by coroner Roberto Demontis, confirmed what emerged from the initial investigations but also what her son declared to the Carabinieri when the body was found. The man is being investigated for concealment of a corpse and fraud against the State for the fraudulent collection of the pension. Having ascertained the natural cause of death, to know what exactly caused it and above all to know the date on which the woman died, we will have to wait for the results of the histological and toxicological tests. Her health conditions were certainly not good: she had been taking drugs for some time and everyone in Sarroch knew about it. The suspicions about the sudden and prolonged disappearance of the elderly woman, which then led to the “tip-off” that allowed the police to make the macabre discovery, arose precisely because her fellow citizens had noticed that no one went to the pharmacy to get her drugs anymore and that she had not been seen at mass on Sundays.
