Hidalgo registered 38 new cases and five deaths from COVID in two weeks: DGE

In the first two weeks of August, Hidalgo registered 38 new cases of COVID-19 and five deaths, according to the General Directorate of Epidemiology.

In addition, during the same period, the state of Hidalgo reported one case and one death from interseasonal influenza, according to the federal agency’s weekly report.

As of August 14, the state had accumulated 362 cases and 27 deaths due to coronavirus, a figure that increased compared to the 324 cases and 22 deaths at the end of July.

The recent weekly report places Hidalgo as the fourth state with the most COVID deaths, preceded by Mexico City with 70, Puebla 37 and the State of Mexico with 29 accumulated.

To date, March is the month with the most deaths, with six, followed by April and February with five each, January with four, May and July with one death; so far in August there have been five. No deaths were reported in June.

The federal agency reported that Mexico has 11,692 accumulated cases and 460 deaths from COVID from January to August 14, 2024.

While the interseasonal influenza section revealed that Hidalgo has accumulated 23 cases and two deaths in almost three months that concluded the seasonal period that ran from October 1, 2023 to May 18, 2024.

Across the country, there were 1,150 positive cases and 25 deaths due to interseasonal influenza, in addition to 33,714 acute respiratory infections.

The head of the Hidalgo Health Secretariat, Vanesa Escalante Arroyo, indicated that cases of respiratory illnesses, including COVID, are under control.

He indicated that the strategy of Public Health is to continue with the care, promotion and prevention of vaccination, which is why he recommended that the population go to their nearest health unit to get vaccinated.
