The Specialized Medical Unit for the Detection and Diagnosis of Breast Cancer (UNEME-DEDICAM) Its main objective is reduce the incidence of this condition, which represents the most common type of cancer among women.
According to records, so far this year there have been three deaths for this disease, same number of deaths as those that occurred during 2023. Meanwhile, in 2022, no deaths were recorded from this cause, they reported in the Hidalgo Health Department through a press release.
As part of early detection, in the first two months of 2024, eleven positive cases of cancer were detected, which were referred to National Cancer Institute (Incan) and the Juarez Hospital in Mexico City, for treatment.
From 2022 to date, This screening, detection and diagnosis unit has performed 15,873 mammograms. Of this total, four thousand 778 patients, According to the results, they required ultrasounds, as well as complementary studies.

Within the comprehensive care provided in this unit, the psychology area provides patients with emotional support throughout their diagnosis process, cancer confirmation and through the medical treatment phase, as well as post-treatment. UNEME-DEDICAM maintains permanent coordination with all the Health Jurisdictions of the state for the transfer and care of groups for mammography studies.
They support patients with round-trip transportation to Incan or the Juárez Hospital for treatment or follow-up; and, through a telephone center, patients who have stopped attending their mammography studies in previous years (2017-2023) are contacted.
Among the health promotion actions, informative talks were held in Health Centers, with the theme “Diagnostic triad for early detection of breast cancer (self-examination, clinical examination and mammography).”
