Beirut, Lebanon (CNN) – The Secretary-General of the Lebanese Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, warned on Wednesday that if Israel launched a war on Lebanon, the response would be “without limits and controls,” adding, “We are not afraid of war.”
Nasrallah was delivering a pre-planned speech to mark the fourth anniversary of the killing of Iranian Quds Force military commander Qasem Soleimani, who was killed in a US airstrike in Iraq in January 2020. Nasrallah’s speech also comes one day after the killing of Hamas leader Saleh al-Arouri. In an explosion in the southern suburb of Beirut, which a US official told CNN was caused by an Israeli air strike.
It also comes amid a deadly escalation between Israel and Hezbollah since the October 7 attack and the ensuing war between Israel and Hamas, raising fears it could spill over into a broader regional conflict.
Nasrallah said: “So far we are fighting on the front with calculations, so there are sacrifices, but if the enemy thinks of waging a war on Lebanon, then our fighting will be without limits, controls, and ceilings.” He added: “We are not afraid of war and are ready for it.”
The Secretary-General of Hezbollah went on to say: “The war with us will be very costly. If a war is launched against Lebanon, the Lebanese national interests require that we take the war to the end without restrictions.”
Regarding the killing of Al-Arouri in Lebanon on Tuesday, Nasrallah said: “Yesterday’s crime was great… This crime will not remain without response and punishment, and between us and you is the field, the days and the nights.”
