Marjayoun, South Lebanon, April 14, 2024 (Xinhua) – Lebanese Hezbollah announced this morning (Sunday) that its military wing, the Islamic Resistance, targeted Israeli sites in the occupied Syrian Golan in response to raids that left many civilians dead and wounded in southern Lebanon.

The party said in a statement, “In response to the nighttime Israeli raids that targeted a number of safe villages and towns, the most recent of which were Al-Khiyam and Kafr Kila, and the occurrence of a number of civilian martyrs and wounded, the Mujahideen of the Islamic Resistance, at dawn today, targeted Israeli positions in Nafah, Yardun, and Kila in the occupied Syrian Golan with dozens of Katyusha rockets.”

Lebanese military and medical sources confirmed to Xinhua News Agency: “A civilian was killed and five other civilians were wounded in an Israeli raid that targeted the center of the town of Khiam in the eastern sector of southern Lebanon.”

The sources indicated, “One of the Israeli raids targeted the outskirts of a Lebanese army barracks in the city of Marjayoun, east of southern Lebanon, causing severe damage to a special wing belonging to the General Directorate of Lebanese Army Intelligence, which was severely damaged and a number of members inside miraculously survived.”

Eyewitnesses from the border villages confirmed to Xinhua that dozens of powerful explosions were heard in most of the border areas as a result of Israeli raids and missile shelling that targeted Hezbollah positions in a closed forest area in Jabal al-Rayhan and Iqlim al-Tuffah, deep in southern Lebanon.

The sources continued that several surface-to-surface missiles were fired by the Israeli army, targeting the areas of Rashaya Al-Fakhar, Jabal Sadana, Al-Dalafa, Barghez, and Al-Khuraiba in the eastern sector of southern Lebanon.

The military sources reported that they also monitored the passage of about 30 surface-to-surface missiles and several marches from the Lebanese side to the Israeli side, and Israeli Iron Dome missiles intercepted some of them over the areas of Kafr Shuba and Al-Khiyam in the eastern sector of southern Lebanon.

The border between Lebanon and Israel has witnessed exchanges of fire and bombardment between Hezbollah and armed factions on the one hand and the Israeli army on the other since the outbreak of war between the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel in the Gaza Strip on October 7th.
