Lebanese Hezbollah said on Sunday that it shot down an Israeli drone with a surface-to-air missile in southern Lebanon, the first time the party has announced such an operation amid an escalation in clashes on the Lebanese border.
Hezbollah added that the drone was hit near Khiam, about five kilometers from the border with Israel, and was seen falling into Israeli territory.
The party reported in a statement that on Sunday afternoon, its fighters targeted an “Israeli drone in the East Khiam area with a surface-to-air missile and hit it directly, and it was seen with the naked eye as it fell inside the Palestinian territories.”
There was no comment from the Israeli Ministry of Defense, nor did the Israeli army, which claimed responsibility for launching more attacks on what it described as Hezbollah targets on Sunday, according to what Reuters reported.
Hezbollah also published a video that it said was of targeting an Israeli group in the Al-Abad site.
The Israeli army and the Lebanese Hezbollah group have exchanged fire daily since the start of the conflict in Gaza three weeks ago.
According to Israel, its forces targeted a cell in southern Lebanon that attempted to launch anti-tank missiles towards Israel, and its planes bombed Hezbollah targets in response to the launching of projectiles from Lebanese territory.
For its part, Hezbollah said that about 46 of its fighters were killed and 43 others were injured in the border areas so far, adding that it had launched 84 attacks on 42 points on the border since the clashes began.
