During the night, Hezbollah attacked northern Israel from Lebanon with dozens of rockets. Air raid sirens sounded throughout the night. According to the Israeli Army (IDF), most of the 105 rockets fired were intercepted, but some houses were damaged.
Hezbollah said the strikes were aimed at industrial and military targets in retaliation after a series of bombings of the group’s announcers and radios this week.
Israel also continued to attack targets in Lebanon after Friday’s airstrike in Beirut, which the Israel Defense Forces said killed 16 senior Hezbollah commanders. Lebanon said 45 people were killed.
On Saturday, dozens of Israeli warplanes carried out strikes in southern Lebanon. Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said Hezbollah was seen preparing to attack Israel.
Previously, the IDF said its forces were able to destroy more than 1,000 Hezbollah rockets when they hit around 180 suspected launch sites.
On Sunday morning, the IDF announced strict restrictions for residents in northern Israel and parts of the Golan Heights. In particular, people have been banned from gathering in open areas of more than 10 people. It is only possible to attend work and school if there are special shelters. These restrictions also apply to Israel’s third largest city, Haifa.
In Lebanon this week, thousands of people were injured and 39 people were killed in a remote explosion of announcers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah members to avoid dealing with cell phones.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah blamed Israel for this and promised “just punishment.” Israel has not officially claimed responsibility for the explosions.
