Atlanta, United States (CNN) – Three of its members were killed during an Israeli air strike in southern Lebanon on Monday, the Iranian-backed group told CNN.
This comes shortly after the Israeli army announced that “a number of launches have been identified from Lebanese territory to Israeli territory.”
Hezbollah said in a statement that “groups of the Islamic resistance” fired guided missiles at Israel, targeting the Pranit Barracks and the Avivim Barracks of the Israeli army, “as a result of the Israeli attack on Lebanese towns and villages” and the killing of members of the group.
For several hours, several explosions were heard as Israeli helicopters launched an air strike near the border with Lebanon. Many homes and shops were damaged, and some local residents fled to the city of Sidon, about 60 kilometers from the border, according to the Lebanese National News Agency.
Fires were also seen burning in one of the areas targeted by the raid, according to pictures broadcast by Lebanese media. The National News Agency said that the fire was caused by Israeli phosphorus bombs. The Israeli army did not confirm the use of incendiary bombs.
The Lebanese army said that the outskirts of Dhahira, Aita al-Shaab, and other border areas were “subjected to air and artillery bombardment.” The army urged citizens to avoid areas adjacent to the border.
