The Iran-backed Shiite movement Hezbollah in Lebanon has attacked Israel with rockets in solidarity with the Palestinian militant group Hamas. Cities and villages in northern Israel were again attacked with rockets from the territory of Lebanon, DPA reported, referring to a statement of the Israeli army, quoted by BTA.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that 20 rockets were aimed at the area of the city of Haifa. An air alert has been declared in numerous cities in the north and east of the Galilee. Several of the missiles were intercepted, and the rest fell in open terrain, the army said. According to initial information, there are no reports of casualties or significant damage.
Hamas fighters invaded southern Israel on October 7 and carried out a series of attacks on towns and kibbutzim in which, according to Israeli figures, 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 people were kidnapped and taken hostage, DPA noted.
Israel is trying to drive Hezbollah from the border area by carrying out massive airstrikes on Lebanese territory, accompanied by a ground offensive. The Israeli cabinet’s goal is to allow 60,000 Israelis to return safely to their homes in northern Israel.
