The first K-pop store in the Netherlands has opened in Arnhem. Items are sold that have to do with the popular South Korean genre, which is also catching on here.
An hour after opening time, 120 people lined up. In a store where a maximum of 10 people can enter at the same time, the waiting time quickly increased to more than an hour.
Fans are happy that they can no longer buy their favorite albums online:
First K-pop store in the Netherlands opened in Arnhem
The store is called Hey!Hallyu and started as a webshop a few years ago. Owner Eva Bergsma had every confidence in a physical store. “The music is huge catchy and very attractive to many young people,” she says to the regional broadcaster. “I think this is super cool, otherwise I wouldn’t start it.”
Last month there was already a pop-up location on Velperplein in Arnhem, which attracted hundreds of fans from all over the country. The store is now permanent.
Hey!Hallyu is filled with CDs, posters and stickers from K-pop bands like BTS and Blackpink.
The retail stock of the Gelderland capital is a pearl richer, if it is up to the visitors. “This is literally the best thing that ever happened in Arnhem,” a student told the broadcaster. “I go here very often with friends, I already know that.”
