The hexavalent vaccine is not just a temporary campaign, but rather a new vaccine for children. It has a validity of 12 years and previously it could only be purchased abroad and in the private sector, however, today, all children in Paraguay can access it through the vaccination centers of the Ministry of Health.

The aforementioned vaccine simplifies the number of injections that the nursing child receives, therefore it reduces the events that may be associated with them, such as pain or swelling in the area of application or the appearance of fever, in addition, it does not interrupt breastfeeding.

Dr. Héctor Castro, director of the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI) states that the hexavalent has the same effectiveness as those applied separately and provides protection against diseases that can be very complicated and dangerous for the little ones.

The diseases that can be avoided with the hexavalent

Diphtheria.Tetanus.Whooping cough.Haemophilus: meningitis, pneumonia, Hepatitis B.Poliomyelitis.

It is important to mention that children who received the hexavalent vaccine abroad or in the private sector can now complete their dose in our country, free of charge.

Health centers in the interior of the country have sufficient doses, immunization has already begun and another large batch is expected by the end of the year, so they ensure that there will be no shortages.

Who can access the vaccine?

The vaccine can be applied to all children born from April 2023. The first dose is applied at 2 months of age.

Children born before April must continue with the vaccination scheme that includes pentavalent and against polio, separately.
