More than 40 weapons were found in a home in Hewlett (Long Island, NY), after resident Ilya Ostrovskiy called the police to report that his car had been stolen.
Ostrovskiy, 37, was arrested Friday when officers discovered the weapons cache at his home after he reported his car stolen, it reported. Pix11.
The suspect was awakened by his home’s alarm just before 5 am Friday and saw three men running from his home, Nassau County police said. The men left the scene in a red Jeep Cherokee and also took Ostrovskiy’s new vehicle, a 2023 Audi Rs 6.
the occupant shot three times with a pistol at the men as they fled. During their subsequent investigation at the home, officers found 22 semi-automatic pistols and 19 assault rifles along with high capacity magazines, ballistic plates and bulletproof vests.
Ostrovskiy was accused of multiple counts of criminal possession of a firearm. He is being held in the Nassau County Jail awaiting his court appearance Tuesday.
In a similar case, authorities on Long Island seized more than 200 weapons hidden in the home of Rex Heuermann, arrested on suspicion of killing several women in Gilgo Beach, suffolk county.
All charges are mere accusations and those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
