For 18 years, Claus Kleber gave the “heute-journal” a face, so ZDF editor-in-chief Peter Frey is all the more pleased that Kleber’s successor Christian Sievers comes from within ZDF’s own ranks.
The 51-year-old Sievers has been working for ZDF since 1998, he moderated the “ZDF Morgenmagazin” and presented projections and analyzes in ZDF election programs, directed the ZDF studio in Tel Aviv – and since 2014 moderated the main edition of “heute” .
Alternating with Marietta Slomka
The “heute-journal” will moderate Sievers alternately with Marietta Slomka. A few weeks a year, Bettina Schausten, the head of ZDF’s main news department, will support the two moderators.
Sievers – who previously ran the news magazine on a weekly basis – will complete his first week in his new role as permanent anchorman of “heute-journal” from January 10th to 16th.
Sievers was replaced by Mitri Sirin, who has been part of the ZDF main news program team since October 11th, on the 7pm program on “heute”. He takes turns with Jana Pareigis and Barbara Hahlweg.
