A two-stage escalation level concept is decisive for the assessment of the infection situation nationwide, in which the hospitalization incidence and intensive care bed occupancy are indicators for more far-reaching protective measures.

The hospitalization incidence, which describes how many people per 100,000 inhabitants were newly admitted to hospital due to corona disease in the past seven days, is currently 1.86. 141 intensive care beds in Hesse are occupied with COVID-19 sufferers. Level one becomes relevant if the hospitalization value rises above eight nationwide or the number of intensive care patients nationwide is over 200. The values are not calculated at the district level.

Overall, there is a diffuse infection process in the district area. No hotspots can be identified.

The two hospitals in the district currently care for 19 people with COVID-19, six of them in intensive medical care – either in ICU High Care (monitoring, invasive ventilation, full intensive medical therapy options) or ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation). Three people who need hospital treatment are fully vaccinated. The number of those who died after a SARS-CoV-2 infection remained at 558.
