Tottenham said on the club’s website that “Son Heung-min has been appointed club captain in place of Lloris.”
Son Heung-min said, “I am honored and proud to be the captain of a big team like Tottenham.”
Coach Postecoglu also added strength, saying, “Choosing Son Heung-min as the new captain was an ideal choice.”
Son Heung-min became the second Korean player to captain a Premier League club after Park Ji-sung, who captained Queens Park Rangers.
Tottenham play their season opener tonight against Brentford at 10pm.
