Back to the cinema! School classes all over Hesse are looking forward to the 15th School Cinema Weeks full of anticipation, which will turn the cinema into a classroom again from June 28 to July 9, 2021 – if the infection rate allows it. Showing films where they unfold their full effect is particularly important for the SchulKinoWochen again this year. After many months of foregoing the cinema as a cultural and learning location, the summer edition aims to bring films back to the big screen and enable school classes to experience films together in the cinema.

Places are limited, so it’s important to get hold of it quickly!
Teachers who would like to secure the date and film of their choice in their favorite cinema now can book screenings and accompanying offers from today. Due to the limited occupancy of the hall, the seats are limited, so it is important to get hold of it quickly! Workshops for school classes and advanced training for teachers can already be booked. Many offers can also take place digitally.

The program of the SchulKinoWochen Hessen
The SchulKinoWochen, organized by VISION KINO – Network for Film and Media Competence together with the DFF – German Film Institute & Filmmuseum, Frankfurt, bring a carefully prepared film and educational program from more than 100 films and accompanying workshops, specialist discussions and training for all age groups and School types in the Hessian regions. From committed documentary films to cinema highlights from Hessian production to classics from film history, the program opens up exciting opportunities to convey teaching topics in a lively manner and invites you to discover the cinema as a cultural location. Film education offers in school or digitally complement the varied film program, which deals with current topics such as racism, climate change and sustainability. This year, the focus is also on the cinematic narrative voice.

Cinema screenings can now be booked for the low unit price of 4 euros per student.
The accompanying educational program is included. In order to make the shared cinema experience as safe and successful as possible, various measures must be observed both in advance and on the day of the event. The project team provides information about the hygiene concept of the SchulKinoWochen and provides personal advice on films and accompanying offers.

Focus narrative voice
Voice-over commentary, voice from the off or audio description: who or what is hidden behind the invisible narrative voices and what are they used for in the film? The focus series uses selected films, including classics such as DIE FABELHAFTE DER AMÉLIE (2001), FONTANE EFFI BRIEST (1974) and FORREST GUMP (1994), as well as accompanying workshops to investigate the relationship between film image and narrative voice. A particular focus is on the inclusive form of audio description.

Subject series
The special program Racism, Police Violence & Black’s Life in US Cinema in cooperation with the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) shows a selection of works that cinematically reflect the starting point of the “Black Lives Matter” movement and the living situation of black people in the USA approach.

A program on Filmland Hessen presents cinema productions from Hessen. Hessian film festivals introduce themselves with selected films.

Climate catastrophe? Accompanying the exhibition “Catastrophe. What comes after the end? ”Three films can be seen that are dedicated to the portrayal of disasters and the societal, political and cultural issues that accompany them.

The Science Year 2020 | 21: Bioeconomy deals with a biologically sustainable economy. The film program is dedicated to fundamental questions about the future: How will we feed the growing world population? How do we want to make the transition to a climate-neutral world and what contribution can we make in everyday life?

Six selected films in the 17 Goals – Cinema for a Better World program deal with the sustainability goals of the United Nations: no poverty, gender equality, clean water and sanitary facilities, decent work and economic growth as well as climate protection measures.

Further training for teachers, workshops and film talks
Teachers are invited to deliberately explore the medium of film. The training courses take place in cooperation with the Hessian media institutions and are accredited by the Hessian Teaching Academy. Workshops introduce the film analysis or practical film work. For the first time, the FILMS IN COMPARISON workshop format offers the possibility of combining a film viewing in class with a visit to the cinema and thus already integrating film education into the class.

Film talks can be booked for each performance on request (as long as the contingent lasts).
