After a Corona break of several years, the Hessian Film and Cinema Prize will be awarded again at a festive gala in the Alte Oper in Frankfurt. In addition to the nominees, numerous invited guests and celebrities are expected on the red carpet this Friday evening (from 8 p.m.).

Frankfurt/Main – The film prize honors outstanding filmmakers as well as newcomers. This year’s honorary award winner is Alexandra Maria Lara, as Prime Minister Boris Rhein (CDU) had already announced. The actress has been President of the German Film Academy since 2020. She starred in the films “Downfall” and “The Collini Case,” among others.

The Newcomer Prize goes to the German-Iranian filmmaker and producer Behrooz Karamizade, as has also already been announced. The award is intended to help him gain a foothold and become visible. His production “Empty Networks” is also nominated in the feature film category.

The award ceremony also honors works in the categories of documentary, short film, screenplay and university graduation film. Who the respective winners are will not be announced until Friday evening. The winning films will be shown on Saturday and Sunday in selected cinemas in Frankfurt, Bad Nauheim, Witzenhausen and Darmstadt. dpa
