Hessian cinemas on the way to sustainability – Programmkino.de

(29.08.2024)

Hesse is a pioneer when it comes to sustainable cinema. It was the first federal state to focus more on the topic of sustainability through state funding. It quickly became clear that there was an enormous need for advice and so, in addition to a prize for sustainability, advisory services are also awarded.

The measures are part of the Hessian Prize for Sustainable Cinema, which has been awarded every two years since 2016. Since then, 43 cinemas (around 40 percent of the companies) have been involved in various sustainability areas, four companies have been awarded the prize and 16 have received recognition.

This year, the consultations, which are accompanied by sustainability experts from the Frankfurt-based company “Lust auf besser Leben”, are aimed at seven cinemas. Four cinemas, the Burg-Theater Schwalmstadt, the Cine K Korbach, the Lindentheater Geisenheim and the Lichtburg Langen, are dealing with the topic for the first time. In addition, there are the Kommunales Kino Weiterstadt, the Filmpalast Kassel and the CasaBlanca Arthouse Bad Soden.

The following topics will be discussed: In addition to the Lichtburg in Langen, the Burg-Theater Schwalmstadt will also be advised on energy efficiency/renewable energies, and will also be taking part in a Kickstarter workshop together with the CasaBlanca Arthouse Bad Soden and the Lindentheater Geisenheim. The design of the concession area is the topic of discussion at the Kommunales Kino Weiterstadt and Cine K in Korbach, the latter of which will also receive support with sustainability communication, and coaching for the Filmpalast Kassel is planned for a climate balance sheet. The measures implemented will be communicated to all cinemas as “best practice examples”.
