A funding program is designed to provide companies with an incentive to switch to e-company cars.

Craftsmen, tax consultants, companies from the health and automotive sectors: 62 companies in 20 Hessian districts and urban districts are supporting the state this year in the construction of charging stations for electric cars. The funding project of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Transport amounts to around 1.65 million euros.

It is the third year in which the funding is running. Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens) said that the “charging stations at the employer” program continues to be in huge demand. The traffic turnaround and the energy turnaround belong together: “Low-emission and climate-friendly mobility requires a suitable charging infrastructure.” That is why the state supports companies that make their way there.

The non-public charging stations would have added value for the employees who would come to work with an electric car. At the same time, they were an incentive for companies to purchase electric company cars.

Operations across the country

“It is clear that the difficult economic situation in which Hessian companies are currently putting every investment in the company to the test.” It is all the more important to provide financial support for planned projects that benefit companies, employees and the climate, so Al-Wazir.

The companies benefiting this year are scattered across the country. Rural regions such as Waldeck-Frankenberg, Kassel district or the Lahn-Dill district are also part of it, as are companies from Frankfurt and Offenbach.

Supported by the Hessian funding program “charging stations at the employer”, a total of 692 AC charging points and 112 quick-chargers, so-called DC charging points, were created in 2018 and 2019. With a total of 2.7 million euros, Wiesbaden subsidized the investment costs with up to 40 percent. In addition to the charging infrastructure, earthworks and the necessary planning services for connection and installation are also eligible.

As the Ministry also reports, in addition to private and employer-sponsored charging points, there are also publicly accessible charging stations. According to figures from the Federal Association of Energy and Water Management, there were a total of 1,724 in Hessen at the end of last year.
