The city of Frankfurt can look forward to Olympic champion Darja Varfolomeev. The 2026 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships will be moved from Berlin to Frankfurt. Why? Unclear.
The 2026 World Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics will be held in Frankfurt and not in Berlin as planned and at a different time. As the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) announced, the title fights will now take place from August 12th to 16th in the festival hall. The DTB did not provide any information about the reasons for the relocation.
After 1981 in Munich, 1997 in Berlin and 2015 in Stuttgart, Germany is hosting an RSG World Cup for the fourth time.
Looking forward to Verfolomeev and Kolosov
“We are very happy to be able to host the Gymnastics World Championships in Frankfurt am Main next year. The RSG title matches fit perfectly into our concept given the sporting upswing we are currently experiencing,” said association president Alfons Hölzl.
Hesse’s Sports Minister Diana Stolz also welcomed the fact that the World Cup is taking place in Frankfurt. The elite rhythmic gymnasts will compete for the world championship title in Hesse in 2026. “This is great news for the many gymnastics fans and can give this fascinating sport a further boost. We are looking forward to this major sporting event in Hesse and will be good hosts,” promised the CDU politician.
Last summer, five-time world champion Darja Varfolomeev (Schmiden) was the first German to win Olympic gold in rhythmic gymnastics in Paris, while Margarita Kolosov (Potsdam) came fourth.
The federal government is supporting the World Cup with millions
The World Gymnastics Association Fig awarded the World Championships in July 2023 to the DTB with the venue in Berlin. The original period was from September 30th to October 4th, 2026.
According to a document from the German Bundestag, the title fights should take place in the Max Schmeling Hall. According to a resolution from November 2023, the federal government is supporting the World Cup with around 2.5 million euros.
