Lionel Messi’s contract with FC Barcelona was recently published. The numbers were impressive. But that doesn’t make him the richest footballer in the world.
Messi has earned around 4.40 euros per second in Barcelona in recent years. At least that is what documents “El Mundo” recently published suggest. So the Argentine is extremely wealthy – it really isn’t a surprise.
In addition to Messi, there would of course also be players like Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus) or Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain) who would be trusted to act as the richest footballer in the world. But actually it seems, at least according to current estimates, to be a 22-year-old kicker from the USA.

Little success as a professional footballer
Faiq Bolkiah is the name of the player who has not actually appeared internationally. He began his career in the lowlands of English football, moving via Newbury to Southampton, Arsenal, Chelsea, Leicester City and most recently to Portugal to the first division club from Maritimo.
The portal “Transfermarkt.de” estimates the market value of Bolkiah at around 200,000 euros. In the current season he recorded a single appearance – and that in the U23 league of Portugal. No outstanding record for the right winger.

The Bolkiah family is extremely wealthy
So his fortune does not come from his career as a footballer. Rather, Bolkiah is the son of Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei and nephew of Hassanal Bolkiah the current sultan of the country. Born in Los Angeles, Bolkiah trained at Bradfield College in Great Britain and played soccer “on the side”.
His fortune is currently estimated at around 20 billion US dollars. This was reported by several media outlets, including the Spanish daily “Marca” and the large soccer portal “Goal.com”. The Bolkiahs family has already gained a lot of international attention because of its wealth.
Jefri Bolkiah is said to have invited Michael Jackson to a private concert on his 50th birthday. The celebration is said to have cost a total of over 14 million euros. Incidentally, Faiq Bolkiah, who is gifted football, is a big star in his own country – the crowd celebrates their captain of the national team.
