Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin has great faith in Luke Richardson, who will be called upon to replace head coach Dominique Ducharme after he tested positive for COVID on Friday.
Richardson, who is normally an assistant coach, will be the boss behind the bench, presumably until Ducharme returns.
“It’s a different, unique situation,” he told Renaud Lavoie, before the third game of the series against the Golden Knights.
“He’s our only coach who has experience as a head coach and has been with Dominique from the start,” he added.
The 52-year-old will not be shaken by the scale of the situation, Bergevin also assured.
“He’s very calm, he’s a bit like Dominique,” he illustrated. He has a lot of experience as a player, there is not much that bothers him, he will be ready for the challenge. ”
As for the group of players, the DG displayed the same serenity.
“We all went here together, it’s certain that Dominique is a big piece, but it is the players who perform on the ice,” he said. Nothing changes, we will be ready for tonight’s game. ”
Bergevin has also indicated that he will address the players before the start of the meeting.
