Hertz to Sell 20,000 Electric Vehicles and Replace with Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) Cars: Report

Car rental company Hertz will sell 20,000 electric vehicles and replace them with internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. This was reported by the Voice of America*.

Hertz, which in 2022 announced its intention to purchase 100 thousand Tesla electric vehicles and up to 65 thousand Polestar electric vehicles, is selling a significant part of its electric vehicle fleet. Hertz will get rid of 20 thousand electric cars and replace them with cars with traditional internal combustion engines.

“The decision is related to the increased costs of maintaining an electric fleet – we are talking about the higher cost of repairs in the event of accidents involving such vehicles and other damage. At the beginning of trading, shares of the American company Tesla and the Swedish Polestar reacted to the news with a fall of 3%,” GA reports.

It is noted that Hertz previously planned to convert a quarter of its fleet to electric traction by 2024.
